2009 finds Orion in semi-retirement as to agility as his pal Voltaire takes over the reins...

ORION is the #4 Dane nationally, and the #1 Dane in the southwest in USDAA AGILITY!

Orion--again--qualifies for the AKC/Eukanuba Agility Invitational!

We've two more Q'd for Agility & the only Obedience Q this year.

SEPTEMBER 2008 UPDATE FROM CARRIE BURNS ON HER MANTLE MAFIA:
The Boyz left lazy summer days behind them to kick off the fall agility
season enduring thunderstorms and scorching heat. Continuing their multi
venue pursuits, they've had strong showings in AKC, NADAC and DOCNA.

Orion and I are excited to be returning to the AKC Invitational where we
will be linking up with 2 of his cousins, Quizzy and Shaymus. In
Albuquerque he wrapped up his novice preferred titles (NJP and NFP) and
added some open legs. Rounding things out was a win of the Jumpers
Specialist Class at the Labor Day DOCNA trial.

Voltaire has found a new gear and is showing that he, too, can run fast
AND keep all the bars up. In 97 degree temps he won the Open Jumpers
class and did it in Elite time. I don't think it will be long before both
boyz are running head to head in Elite NADAC Jumpers!

Voltaire is now:

Chroma Walking On The Sun RN, NAJ, NF, NJC, and HIC

Orion is now:

(At least something like that!)

Orion is one of the few (top 5 per breed) that was invited to the 2007 AKC National Invitational!

AND HE'LL BE BACK AGAIN in 2008!

This time with his cousins Quizzy & Shamus too!

Last year he & cousin Quizzie too were featured at the AKC WEBSITE

ORION is THE #1 DANE in NADAC AGILITY!

Orion was the #1 NADAC Dane for 2007 & still tops the heap so far in 2008!

DOCNA is a newer agility venue that held it's first bicoastal Nationals Oct 5-7. The East Coast event was held in CT and the West Coast event was held in AZ. Overall the Boyz ran great with Orion becoming more consistent each day.
I'm very proud that each boy anchored their relay team (Trigility) and successfully completed their "gamble" portion to qualify each team (a team can not have a qualifying run if the gamble leg is faulted). We literally have a pile of beautiful rosettes and medals. Orion also won a big bucket of Platinum Performance Plus for his North American Challenge
win. They were a sponsor of the event -- nice loot we got from this fun event!

Orion individual results:
1st Place National North American Challenge 20" Select Division (Similar
to a Grand Prix Event)
1st Place Western Regional Standard
1st Place Western Regional Jumpers
1st Place Trigility (team Relay)

Voltaire:
Made it to the jumpers final and took second behind Orion. Not often you see two Danes in the ribbons in the top height class, nevermind with mulitple qualifying rounds each time around! Bravo to these two for so well representing our breed!

FLASH! ORION GAINS 6 more MACH PTS in 1 RUN!

ORION GAINS TWO USDAA ADVANCED AND AN AKC OPEN AGILITY TITLE JUST BEFORE HIS 6TH BIRTHDAY--STILL RUNNING STRONG! Carrie writes of him:

"Orion managed to squeeze in three more open titles before he turned six. He had a nice jumpers run to get his 3rd USDAA Advanced Jumpers leg and title. He also "saved my bacon" in true Orion style on a tough gamble to finish his USDAA Advanced Gamblers Title. So now he'll be competing in masters jumpers and gamblers. Finally, on a tricky Dan Dege course, he nailed the send to finish his Open Fast title. The Q rate for this course was around 15%."

ORION ACHIEVES ANOTHER, HIS THIRD BREED RARITY! HIC (Herding Instinct Certified) by the American Herding Breed Association) TITLE, given with many compliments from a surprised judge (who acted as his handler to boot!). Need your Dane to be gentle to your livestock? Here's a way to be sure they can round up the horses or bring in the cows. We pride ourselves on our biddable & versatile dogs!
See his "brother" here herding sheep.

ORION ACHIEVES ANOTHER BREED FIRST: He is the first Great Dane to achieve the AKC "FAST" AGILITY TITLE. Orion (see below) was also the first Great Dane to receive an advanced title in Rally-O. Congrats to Carrie Burns and her talented "Mantle Mafia." Scroll for photos and details.

ORION GRABS BOTH HIS OAC & OJC ON THE SAME DAY!

Carrie Burns was out in USDAA events with her 4 yo Mantle Orion aka CHROMA Orion of the Red Bluff CDX RE NA AXJ. She's working again toward seeing him qualified for the USDAA finals a 2nd year in a row. ANd they've had a good start, as the first weekend out they Q'd in ADV Gamblers as well as got a "miracle" run in snookers, with all three "7 point" obstacles achieved, closing with a maximum score of 51 and a first place! Then next time they finished Open Regular and Open Jumpers titles, and started in Elite with a 1st in Jumpers!

ORION GAINS HIS AXJ WITH ALL FIRST PLACES! Finishing with a wicked fast time of 30 seconds (SCT 42), "The BIG O" is out for MACH points now! Watch out for him (the Catasticks too) in 2007 as they take the field in agilitiy!

Orion gains title #13 (OAJ) and moves to Excellent level Agility at WAGS FOR WISHES! He also gets two legs towards #14 (OA), & does a smoking fast FAST class too! Then he went on to NADAC in Prescott Carrie, his owner-handler, writes: He began the day with an Open Jumpers course and WON the 20" class, running clean in a time of 22 secs with a 6.1 yps time. There were a lot of border collies wondering what had just ripped by. He then came back to win the open standard course. We NQ'd on our next
standard, but qualified in Touch N Go go and Chancesand were clean 4 of 5 runs. The next day he got 2 of 4 Q's and started on MORE titles.....I'm looking forward to a fun fall with the "Big O"!

ORION GAINS his CDX with back-to-back legs, two Firsts, and finishes with a 194.5!

In Flagstaff, Orion wows the crowd and the judges with his trademark flip finishes & shows off his versatility, gaining his 7th AKC & 11th overall title! Congrats to Carrie & "The Big O"!
Orion does his trademark FLIP FINISH!

ORION & TEAM qualify for the USDAA Nationals & go 8th overall while in Salt Lake City in June! ORION also scores big at the USDAA "DAM" TRIALS in AZ in February. Already qualified for the USDAA NATIONAL (he's a steeplechase monster), "The BIG O" had multiple Q's both on his own & as a team player (two terriers & a Dane<G>) and even gainedd an individual placement in Jumpers! Congrats to Carrie and her "Mantle Mafia"!

Orion is titled in three venues in AGILITY: USDAA & NADAC as well as AKC, then is titled in three AKC sports: agility, obedience & rally.

Orion finishes his RE (Rally Excellent) title in three trials. First he gains two (back-to-back) legs towards his Rally Excellent title over Labor Day weekend while in Albuquerque, then onto Prescott to finish on Saturday, 9-17! Orion at this point had 9 titles and is working on several more.

ORION has a new found friend: the Mantle dual-ring prospect VOLTAIRE has come to Arizona to join the fray. To see his own page, click here.

Orion added a title & legs towards two more at the wonderful charity event "Wags For Wishes" in SoCal. Orion finished his NA with clean runs & great times (as much as 24 sec. under SCT), started his hunt for his OAJ & picked up two legs towards his ASCA-CD while visiting Califorina with his family. He also got a lesson in dock-diving, watched carting & lure-coursing (popular events that were sold out early), met Greg Louganis & got his picture in the paper, while owner-handler Carrie Burns was interviewed. This is a wonderful event with everything a dog might want to do, & it's for a good cause, so check it out: <WAGS FOR WISHES WEBSITE>

ORION: FIRST EVER BREED RALLY ADVANCED TITLE, #ally Excellent Dane & TOP TEN for OBEDIENCE & AgilityToO!

Rally is a brand new AKC sport as of 2005. Orion went out in January & got his Rally Novice title. Then in February he went out again to get his Rally Advanced title, which he finished in a downpour in Phoenix Saturday the 19th of February. He finished his Rally Excellent title in three tries. Now onto to the RAE hunt! ORION is the first Dane ever to finish an Advanced title in Rally. He's got 9 titles to date & legs on several more--and he's just now three, and he's his owner's "A" dog to boot! Congrats to Carrie & the Big O.

Orion got a FIRST in agility with a smoking Jumpers run nearly 5 yps: SEE HIM RUN ! He recently ran NADAC in 6 yps (with a Jumpers run of 15.5 seconds) & finished his NA 24 seconds under SCT. Not bad for a 36" dog?
